WE ARE BACK! We are delighted to share the news that our return to live theater starts with our production of PASS OVER moving to Broadway in August! This extraordinary play by Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu and directed by Danya Taymor, was originally produced in 2018 by LCT3 at the Claire Tow Theater, in a sold-out extended run. Now it will reopen the August Wilson Theatre with the entire original cast and creative team. We are thrilled that more of you will be able to see this powerful and prescient 85-minute drama.
The play received many accolades including the 2019 Lortel Award for Outstanding Play. It was called "searing, daring, blazingly theatrical and thrillingly tense" by The NY Times. “Antoinette Nwandu's Pass Over — a provocative, inflammatory, exquisitely written work — is a new masterpiece of modern drama” said Theatermania. The play is more relevant than ever in this time of national reckoning with issues of racial injustice.
PASS OVER draws inspiration from both “Waiting for Godot” and the Exodus story. Set on a city street corner, Moses (Jon Michael Hill) and Kitch (Namir Smallwood) stand around – talking smack, passing the time, and hoping that maybe today will be different. As they dream of their promised land, a stranger (Gabriel Ebert) wanders into their space and disrupts their plans.
The play will be produced for Broadway by Matt Ross, Jujamcyn Theatres and others, along with LCT.
The run is limited -- just August 4 through October 10 -- so we encourage you to make your plans now. Finally, we want to emphasize and assure you that every precaution will be taken to make your return to the theater a safe and comfortable one.
We are delighted to be bringing this remarkable play to a wider public and look forward to seeing you at the August Wilson Theatre. We know you’ll be talking about PASS OVER for a long time to come.
