Middle school students study one Shakespeare play a year and participate with LCT teaching artists in an interactive performance of that play at Lincoln Center in May.
"Now, when I read Shakespeare I won't just think of it as words -- I'll see it as a play in my head."— Student, I.S. 383
Teacher Professional Development
During the spring semester, teachers attend workshops at LCT to learn age-appropriate, hands-on techniques for teaching Shakespeare to middle school students. Teachers develop creative lesson plans that build on the students' experience of seeing a Shakespeare play in performance.
In-Class Workshops with Teaching Artists
Teaching artists conduct a series of interactive workshops to deepen students' knowledge of the play and its characters and to promote their understanding of Shakespeare's language.
Each participating student receives a copy of the play to keep. Students read and discuss the play in their classrooms.
